Utilising SDTM mapping can prove hugely important with regards to enhancing various sports. If their team performs well, they enjoy positive emotions and poor performances result in negative feelings. This is exhibited clearly throughout various moments in a match. Split second moments such as the ball hitting the back of the net or a player being sent off are hugely engaging moments within football matches. However, thanks to VAR so many of these moments are being taken away from supporters.

Ruined Moments

There have already been numerous moments last season which ruined key moments in crucial games. There were numerous spectacles within the game which were marred with technological interference. For example, the world cup final in 2018 was watched by considerably over 1 billion people worldwide. Around twenty minutes into this game there was a penalty awarded which was for the most minuscule hand ball which was incredibly harsh. This had a monumental impact on the quality of the overall game with huge amounts of people switching off.

Television Viewer

As has already been mentioned, although some television viewers may have been frustrated at this it is unlikely that they had their overall experience impacted. However, people inside the stadium may have paid hundreds of pounds for their ticket. One of the most influential moments in the entirety of the world cup was decided by a referee looking at a monitor. People at the game were not provided with the opportunity to see this decision until after they returned home from the game or on their social media at half time. This is undoubtedly nowhere near good enough and severely affects the quality of the overall spectacle.
